Our annual Christmas food appeal was launched on Wednesday, 2nd December.
This is the 41st year of the Food Appeal appeal and the generosity of staff, parents and students has grown from year to year.
As Christmas approaches it is heart-warming to see the boxes, beside the Crib, fill up with all types of food and Christmas treats. These are distributed to people in need by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
Our Transition Year students’ co-ordinate the appeal and help to load up the van when the St. Vincent de Paul volunteers call.
One person who needs a special mention at this time is Mrs Norma Coughlan. Her son was in First Year in 1983 when she decided that instead of giving a box of foodstuffs, she would bake and decorate a Christmas cake to be enjoyed by a family in need. Every year since, she has brought in her magnificent cakes and has brightened many a Christmas for some family.
On Wednesday 2nd December, to mark the launch of the Food Appeal, students can wear a Christmas jumper or something red/green.
We would welcome donations of non-perishable food or cash in the school from Wednesday 2nd – Friday 11th December inclusive.
As you will see from the photos, the response to this year’s appeal has been phenomenal. Many thanks for your continued support and generosity
Ms. Anne Cleary.
