The Annual First Year Debate took place on Valentine’s Day with a very intriguing motion. 

“TTHB Love is a Lie”, a motion chosen by vote in the debating club gave our first years plenty to think about! 

After eight very different speeches and eight very differently styled speakers, our judges, an esteemed panel of 3rd, 4th and 5th years, ultimately decided that the opposition were to take home the trophy. 

It seems love does conquer all in the end! 

Well done to all our first years, some of whom had never debated before. Congratulations to the winning team, Daniel, James, Kiran and Donnacha, and extra congratulations to Daniel who won “Best Overall Speaker”. 

The future of Coláiste an Spioraid Naoimh’s Debating Club is looking bright if our first years can tackle such a complex idea as love on their first outing!
