On World Down Syndrome Day, March 21st, Orla Brassel came to speak to Third Year students to raise awareness about Down syndrome.
She informed the students of the services and support the organisation offers to those with Down syndrome and their families. They provide ‘all-through-life’ support to people with Down syndrome and their families with specialists in the areas of health, speech and language, early development, education and adult education.
To mark this day and support all that Down syndrome Ireland does, Third Year students organised a fundraiser on March 24th and wore fun socks, odd socks or colourful socks to school. This idea was created because chromosomes are shaped like socks and people with Down syndrome have an extra chromosome.
A total of €448.75 was raised and the cheque was presented by our student Dáire Lyons.
Thank you Orla and well done to our Third Years!
