Our TY biology class had the opportunity recently to participate in the River Ecosystem Campaign run by the Worldwide Global Programme provided through Taisce and the EPA.

The class visited Murphy’s Farm to survey the ecosystem of the stream there and to access its overall health. They examined the biodiversity present and did nutrient sampling of the water.

The stream appeared healthy and unpolluted to the naked eye, however its nutrient content did indicate that it was outside the range of normal.

A short walk on a beautiful day provide an interesting insight into ecological surveying and our impact on our environment.
