Our TY Sports Studies students recently complete a GAA Coaching course.

“The Introduction to Coaching Gaelic Games Award” is structured around three key elements.

  • The Coach: “Being a Coach, “How to Coach” and “Preparation for Planning”
  • The Player: “Who are you coaching?” – Whether it is child, youth or adult players, male or female and address the need to be inclusive.
  • The Game: focus on movement for Gaelic Games, skill development and games.

Our TY students described the coach they want to be and they identified the skills of gaelic games. They then looked at the six “How to Coach” competencies and how to apply them into their coaching.

They organised progressive games and activities to develop skills appropriate to players needs and abilities.

Finally they learned about “Fundamental Movement Skills” appropriate to Gaelic Games. They highlighted differences and similarities while coaching different abilities.

Now our TY Sports Studies group can plan, organise and deliver quality coaching sessions.

Well done to them for the commitment they showed and for completing the course.
