Career Guidance & Counselling

The personal wellbeing of each student is central to our Mission Statement here in Coláiste an Spioraid Naoimh. Our Guidance Counsellors, Ms Downes & Ms Evans provide advice and support to help students with their spiritual, social and intellectual development.

Guidance and Counselling includes the following three areas:

Educational Guidance – helping First Year students make a smooth transition from Primary school, advising students on Subject Choice selection in First Year, Third Year and Transition Tear, Study Techniques, Aiding Motivation and Aptitude Tests.

Career Guidance – through individual vocational guidance interviews we help 6th  year students decide on a career/job/college course that will suit them. In our weekly career classes we prepare students for CAO/UCAS/PLC applications, scholarship application and HEAR & DARE.

An integral part of the Career Guidance Programme involves inviting guest speakers from Third Level Institutes to the school, attending Career Seminars and Open Days.

Personal Guidance (Counselling) – Listening to and supporting students who are struggling to cope with difficult situations in their lives.
Counselling aims to help students explore, talk through and examine problems or worries that they may be experiencing. Counselling also aims to help them come up with ways of dealing with any difficulties that may arise for them.
The Guidance Counsellors liaise with the Principal, Deputy Principals, Year Heads, Class Teachers and Learning Support staff to endure that all pupil’s educational and emotional needs are cared for.
