Additional Educational Needs (AEN)
Since its earliest days, Coláiste an Spioraid Naoimh has supported students in reaching their full potential. This culture extends to all students, regardless of ability. Today, we have a dedicated Additional Educational Needs (AEN) team to support students.
Our AEN staff includes teachers trained in; supporting students with a range of specific learning needs, assistive technology and English as an Additional Language (EAL) as well as Special Needs Assistants (SNAs) who work with students both on an individual and small group basis. We have a number of Learning Support rooms to facilitate student learning. We also practice Team Teaching to offer wider support within the school community and in the mainstream classroom.
AEN support is offered on an individualised basis through the “Continuum of Support” framework (Post Primary Link). This means all of our practices are evidence based and regularly reviewed. The AEN staff work closely with primary school staff, students and parents to ensure that any supports that are put in place are efficient and effective.
It is our goal that no matter the needs of the pupil they continue to strive for, and reach, their own goals and full potential. We work to reduce and overcome obstacles to learning and create a safe and effective learning environment for all students regardless of ability.
