Our 3rd year History classes paid a visit to Spike Island on Friday 13th October as part of their history course.

They were given a guided tour of the Island and learned about it’s 1300-year history, it’s importance in the story of Cork and who some of the islands famous residents were down through the years.

The boys visited some of the island’s former dwellings and learned all about the island’s monastic, military, penal, and social past.

Some free time gave them the opportunity to explore the fort’s prison cells, military fortifications, internal tunnels and passages.

It was a very enjoyable day out. Thank you to the students for their respectful behaviour as always and to the teachers who organised and travelled with the group.
