At the an Taisce Green-Schools Award ceremony on Wednesday 17th May, Mr Daly, Ms Cahalane and student members of our Green-Schools Committee received our first Green-Schools Flag.

This flag reflects the tremendous effort of all the members of our Green-Schools committee.

It is also an acknowledgement of how all of our staff and students worked together to ensure our school and our local environment is a better place to be in.

We held an Action day on 13th October. Our “No Single Use Plastics Day” allowed us to shine a light on the amount of single use plastics that are used in our school community. We also carried out a waste audit in February.

Our committee meets every month to monitor the progress of our action plan which includes

  1. Segregation of waste in staff room
  2. Green-Schools Curriculum links
  3. Communication with Staff, students and parents
  4. CSN and Neat Streets
  5. CSN Green Code ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’

There are posters on display throughout the school to remind staff and students to reduce/reuse/recycle.

Coláiste an Spioraid Naoimh has achieved a 28% reduction in material going to landfill following the introduction of long-term waste management initiatives.

Well done everyone!
